That would be one of the dumbest things they could do. If you look at game populations when the Player Killer type has free reign it is the first sign of a game that will fail and fail hard. That does not mean that no one will play it but you drive away all of the other 3 player types. Achiever, Explorer and Social players, for as much as people hate "care bears" on these forums it is the mass amounts of "care bears" that allow for games to survive.
I hate how over 1/2 of the game is unplayable until you hit 20Millions+ skill points to even stand a chance against the players that have been here for years. The skill point curve is another aspect of this game that will very shortly need to be looked at.
The 2M+ skill points of learning should be given right off the bat to new players. That is over a month of time wasted learning learning skills rather than actually playing the game. Another system that will need to be looked at is a way to actively gain skills. Especially since there is now a way to loose skill other than death, well for a few specialized skills anyway.
So lets say all new characters start out with 2M of learning skills all of them at rank 4 both basic and advanced.
2-3M should have a 200-300% training bonus. 3-5M should have a 150-250% training bonus. 5-9M should have a 75%-150% training bonus. 9-17M should have a 25%-75% training bonus. 17-33M should have a 0-25% training bonus.
Or if not learning skills granted.
0-1M 500% bonus 1-2M 400% bonus 2-4M 300% bonus 4-8M 200% bonus 8-16M 100% bonus 16-32M 50% bonus
The point is for this game to prosper rather than just limp along with reasonable growth the game needs a way to get new players into the game and keep them here.
My friend and I recruited 4 other real life friends into the game over the past month. All of them have said if it was not for the fact that my friend and I played this game they would have quit while still under the free trial.
The mission system sucks. It sucks hardcore. The missions are not explained or balanced well. Say what you will about Warcraft or hell even Vanguard but they hands down kick EVE's ass when it comes to tutorial and into questing. PVE players can eventually become PVP players but PVE players are what pay the bills.
The PVE content in this game needs a complete overhaul, the new starting tutorial are much better than when I remember starting on this character. I started a second account with my friends just to start a combat focused character.
That is another thing this game has next to nothing structured for non combat players to do.
All PVE content started in .5+ should always stay in .5+.
All Missions should have a "Meta" section where it lists any restrictions that will be encountered in the mission. I.E. warp gate level/ship restriction.
I could rant more this got away from me. Oh well.
As my friends that just started and I joke. EVE is the best game we pay to not play while we wait for skills to train.
Absolute nonsense. the only advantage a vet has is versatility. For example, only a dozen or so skills apply to interceptors, after that there is no way to (Skills wise) be better at flying a ceptor.
If a new player specialises, they can be on even footing very quickly.
